McAllen ISD students, who will be entering a new high school program this fall, will be taking part in the Summer Bridge Program scheduled for June 15-17 at both James “Nikki” Rowe High and South Texas College (STC).
The Summer Bridge Program is designed to help incoming 9th-grade students successfully transition into McAllen ISD’s new P-TECH program in the fall which will create pathways toward careers in the electrical and construction fields.
The activities planned during the three days involve team-building activities, a structural and design project development and a campus tour of STC’s Technology Campus in McAllen.

About 20 students will build connections with their peers and staff while becoming familiar with the P-TECH culture and expectations. The bridge program focuses on encouraging collaboration, strengthening communication and problem-solving skills, and developing the confidence necessary to succeed in a college and career-focused learning environment.
Here is the schedule:

McAllen ISD will be launching the P-TECH program this fall. It stands for Pathways in Technology Early College High. It is a college and career readiness model approved by the Texas Education Agency. This program will help prepare students for their future through academic, technical, and workplace skills.
The program will be based at McAllen ISD’s Rowe High. The district, in partnership with STC, will forge a path for students to earn an Associates Degree (60 college credit hours) in either Construction Management or Electrician Technology Associate of Applied Science.
Students can also earn a Level 1 certification in either Electrician Technology or Construction Supervision. Students will engage in work-based learning at each high school grade level.
Students would also take courses on the STC campus beginning their sophomore year. Through this partnership, STC will provide the college level and dual credit courses so students can earn a tuition-free industry certification and/or Associates Degree.
